Torch ("we", "our", "us") operates the Torch mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information when you use the App.
Information We Collect
- Account: Email and password to create and access your account.
- App data you provide: Messages, inputs, and profile information you send in the App (e.g., military branch, occupation, service history).
- Device and usage: Standard diagnostic and performance data (e.g., app version, interaction events).
How We Use Information
- To provide, maintain, and improve the App (including authentication and messaging).
- To communicate with you about the App (service updates and support).
- To maintain security, prevent abuse, and enforce our terms.
Third-Party AI and Data Services
The App uses third-party services to deliver its core features. These services process data on our behalf solely to provide the App's functionality. We do not permit these providers to use your data for their own purposes, such as training AI models on your inputs. We require that each third-party provider maintains privacy and security protections for your data that are the same as, or equivalent to, the protections described in this policy.
- xAI (Grok): Your chat messages are sent to xAI's API to generate AI-powered responses. This is the App's primary conversational feature.
- OpenAI (Embeddings): Short text fragments such as job titles and skill names are sent to OpenAI's embedding API to perform occupational matching. No conversational messages or personally identifiable information are sent to OpenAI.
- Government services: Location and search queries are sent to VA.gov to retrieve VA facility information.
- Job search: Search queries (keywords and location) are used to retrieve job listings from third-party job sources, including government job databases such as USAJobs.gov.
Sharing
We use service providers (e.g., hosting, authentication, and the AI and data services described above) to operate the App. They process data on our behalf under their respective terms of service. We do not sell personal information. The App does not contain advertising, and no data is shared with advertisers.
Data Retention
We retain your data while your account is active or as needed to operate the service. You may request deletion of your account and data (see Contact).
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
Children
The App is not intended for children under 13 (or under the minimum age required by your region). We do not knowingly collect data from children.
